Just random thoughts, in no particular order...
1. I've been waiting patiently (like a lemming) for Ravelry . I checked today, and here's what I found:
Found you!
- You signed up on June 12, 2007
- You are #8585 on the list.
- 54 people are ahead of you in line.
- 16162 people are behind you in line.
- 34% of the list has been invited so far
I guess it won't be too long before I get my invite, and now I'm already thinking it sounds like a lot of work! It will be fine, and I'll take it slow.
2. SparkPlug was a bad kitty on Friday night, and didn't come when called. I even got up at 3:30 and called. Mr. Ken was up at 4 and noticed one of the motion-detect lights was on, and there was Sparky, just waiting to come in. His punishment was staying inside all day Saturday, which he hates, although he did play lapcat with Mr. Ken - something he rarely does - Saturday night. Today he's back outside, but has been checking on us at least every couple of hours, rubbing and purring and making sure we know he's around and that he loves us. Rotten critter!
3. We spent Saturday at the
San Jose Jazz Festival . It was a lovely day - not too hot, with a lovely cooling (autumn-ish) breeze. We spread a blanket on the grass, and read and snoozed and listened to great jazz for several hours, then headed to a very late lunch around 3:30.
McCormick and Schmick's had wonderful garlicky steamed clams and creamy seafood and corn chowder; a plus was the location across the street from the main jazz stage, and the umbrella-shaded outdoor seating. We'll go back there soon. (It is a chain, which we normally would ignore, but it's hard to find good seafood here, oddly enough!)
4. Our big apple tree is just loaded with apples. It didn't produce terribly well the past 2 summers, and I didn't even notice any blossoms this Spring, so was was stunned when I saw heavily loaded branches touching the ground.
We'll start picking apples next week, and I suspect a fair number will be taken in to our offices. There's a limit to how many apple pies and how much apple butter we can make and use, or even give away. We might be able to persuade a favorite local restaurant to take some off our hands, especially since they are completely organic.
5. Once again, we're buried in laundry. I'm not sure how it happens, but it does. There are days when I wish uniforms were required for work - it would make it so easy to dress in the mornings and laundry would be so easy too! Unfortunately, I do love clothes, and a uniform would soon bore me to tears. Mr. Ken was kind enough to point out that my work clothes are essentially a wardrobe (I favor twinsets and slacks or skirts), especially in the summer. He's right, of course. Winter clothes are more interesting to me, because sweaters can substitute for jackets. Warms a knitters' heart!
6. I've been fighting the urge to start yet another large knitting project, in part, by starting small projects. It's not working! Tonight I'm going to cast on a sleeve of Auburn Mist, and use that as my gauge swatch.
I started a new pair of socks at the Jazz Festival in Socks Rock Red Rock Canyon. Lovely yarn, lovely color and my usual 3x1 ribbing just isn't good enough for it! I'll stop once the ribbing is done, until the right pattern shows itself. Jaywalker isn't right (not enough give over the heel), but something along those lines might be. Ideas?
And, because I'm feeling brave (or cocky!) because the Waving Lace pattern is going so well, I'm just about ready to cast on the Renata Tebaldi yarn for a shawl or large scarf, if I can find the pattern I think I bought last fall. I might cast on for Argosy too, while I'm giving in to startitis!
