Over the holidays, I ventured into my Mother's living room and saw this:
My niece is knitting! (Not only is she knitting, she's wearing slippers I knit for her!)
Several years ago, at least 5 I think, I made all 5 of my nieces a "Learn To Knit" kit for Christmas. There were several balls of yarn that I guessed they'd like (the Homespun above was part of that kit), knitting needles and assorted notions, and a copy of Kid's Knitting by Melanie Falick so they'd have a reference after the holidays. We spent several hours knitting together, but I really didn't expect them to fall in love with knitting like I have; I did hope they'd remember it as a pleasant way to pass the time and come back to it later.
Well, at least one has! She wanted a scarf to go with her good coat, and remembered this yarn was a good match. When her first attempt was too wide and too short, she ripped it out and started over - a couple of times.
I'm so proud of her (for many reasons) and want to publically welcome her to the knitting family!
