How is it possible for a 4-day week to seem so long?
First things first, though: Happy Birthday Mother! Yes, today is my mother's birthday and she does sometimes read my blog. I'll call her before the end of the day, and I hope she got something delivered.
(Tuesday was my mother-in-law's birthday, and while she doesn't read my blog, Happy Birthday, Margo!)
Next, it seems to me that the old blog template needs some tidying up, some freshening and all that. This weekend may be condusive to indoor sorts of activities, and if so, that's on the list. Links need to be updated or changed, the color scheme may get tweaked, the ring info needs updating and all that.
The knitting - sewing - needlework - library / guest room also needs an overhaul. The current storage situation is woefully inadequate. There's yarn everywhere, and I hate stacks and piles. To that end, I've procured some of the shelves with cubes (somewhat like some yarn stores use) which will house some of the yarn-in-queue and some of the books that currently have no permanent homes and such. There are 13 linear feet of cubicles, varying in height from 3 to 4 feet. That should make a dent in the stuff to be organized.
If the weather cooperates at all, it's time to prune roses. They're trying to bud out; in fact, some are still blooming! It's a strange weather year here too. The roses and jasmine are blooming, the narcissus finished blooming before Christmas (that's actually about right for here) and the freesias are about a foot tall and should be sending up bloom stalks any day. Today is beautifully clear, but the wind is blowing 35 or more miles per hour, and it feels cold. Makes me wish I still flew little planes; on days like this you can see San Francisco Bay from the air over San Martin - more than 50 miles south!
Finally, this is a good weekend to update the yarn spreadsheet. I printed it out last night and reviewed it. There is yarn missing - it's in a bin somewhere and I remember buying it but it never got entered; there's also yarn on the list that's not here anymore - given away, sold, knitted. I made notes on the spreadsheets, and as I work on putting holiday stuff back in the attic I'll review the yarn that's up there to make sure it's all listed. I suspect it is, because there's no reason I'd buy yarn and put it in the attic when there's room in the closet. Temporarily, at least, I'll have less that 212 miles of yarn.
